It's very easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to cooking. When we find recipes that we like we tend to cook them over and over again. But now and again it's nice to try out some new recipes. Let's take the humble mushroom for instance. Most of us eat mushrooms in some form or another every week of the year. However there's so much that can be done with a mushroom

Looking for new ways to cook mushrooms doesn't mean you have to make life really difficult for yourself. One thing is for sure, make sure you buy your mushrooms from the grocery store rather than heading off into your local woodland to pick some. There are many poisonous varieties of mushroom and if you don't know what you're doing it's best to leave it to the experts.

Before you go cooking your mushrooms, it might be nice to learn about how healthy they are. They contain lots of really great nutrients such as vitamin D. Vitamin D is notoriously difficult to get in your diet, especially for vegetarians. This is why eating mushrooms regularly is a great idea.

Once you have decided what recipe to follow you need to ensure that the mushrooms have been thoroughly washed. Often they can be really quite dirty so it's important that you give them a good clean under some running water. A soft brush might help you too if you wish.

A very basic recipe is simply to fill some large mushrooms (typically portabella mushrooms) with little bits of ham and cheese. Then pop them in the oven for 15 minutes at a medium heat.

Another recipe you can try is to put red onion, celery and mushroom stems, mozzarella cheese, breadcrumbs plus salt and pepper into the food processor. Place this mixture into the portabella mushrooms and bake them until they start to bubble.
